The country music community mourned the loss of Mindy McCready, who died February 17, 2013 from an apparent suicide. She is survived by two sons, Zander, 6, and Zayne, 9 months old.

Mindy first appeared on the country music scene in 1996 when her debut album, Ten Thousand Angels, featuring the Top 10 title track and No. 1 hit “Guys Do It All The Time,” was released and subsequently certified platinum. She followed 10,000 Angels with the release of If I Don’t Stay The Night, which achieved gold status, in 1997. She parted ways with her record label, BNA Records, in 1999, after the release of her third album, and later signed with Capitol. She released one album for the label before parting ways in 2002.

Mindy’s struggle with addiction and her legal issues were well-documented in recent years. She was arrested multiple times for drug-related charges, DUI, assault and resisting arrests. She also endured a custody battle over her oldest son, Zander.

In an effort to get help, Mindy appeared on an episode of Dr. Phil and a season of Celebrity Rehab. While on Celebrity Rehab, she released what would be her finale studio album, I’m Still Here. Her boyfriend, 34 year old David Wilson, committed suicide on January 13, 3013 and days later, her children were taken from her home by authorities.

Mindy’s publicist released a statement the day after her death. “It is with the deepest sadness we say goodbye to an extraordinary and gifted talent, a daughter, a mother and friend, Miss Mindy McCready,” the statement read. “Our attention at this time is devoted to the needs and care of Mindy’s family. As Mindy spent much of her life in the public eye, we respectfully request your consideration and sensitivity to enable friends and family this time of quiet.”

Country stars offered their condolences to Mindy’s family in the hours after her death:

“Dang, sad to hear about Mindy McCready…..she had a tough run, hate to hear it had to end like this…prayers,” tweeted Brett Eldredge.

“Very sad to hear about Mindy McCready. When I was in Lonestar she was our label mate and we were friends. A tragic end to a talented life,” tweeted John Rich.

“Really really sad to learn the news about Mindy McCready. I will pray for her children and I hope that people are gentle with her memory,” said Chely Wright.

“So so sad to hear about Mindy McCready,” Terri Clark posted. “Had some fun times with her back in the day. Lets respect her memory and wish her soul peace.”

Fellow artists and friends said goodbye to Mindy during a public memorial service in March. Lorrie Morgan, Bryan White, Bekka Bramlett and more performed during the service. Mindy’s family held a private funeral for her in Florida following her death.
