Kellie Pickler Spends Christmas in Afghanistan

“Not every Christmas do you get 2 fist bump a soldier while hanging your feet off the back of a Chinook in Afghanistan,” tweeted Kellie Pickler. Photo courtesy of Twitter.com/kelliepickler.

Kellie Pickler and her husband, songwriter Kyle Jacobs, spent Christmas bringing a little piece of home to our servicemen and women stationed in Afghanistan for the holidays. On her seventh USO Tour, Kellie, along with Kyle and her bandmates, did what she could to spread Christmas cheer and say thank you to those who couldn’t be with their families.

“There’s no place I’d rather spend Christmas,” Kellie told troops, according to The Washington Post. As she started her journey to the Middle East, she expressed her excitement on Twitter. “Bringing home to our service men and women! #7thUSOtour #GodBlessAmerica :) ,” she wrote.

Kellie charmed both American troops as well as those representing other countries, taking the stage in camouflage leggings and rhinestone boots and joking that she’d wanted to bring everyone a glass of Jack Daniel’s. While in Afghanistan, Kellie performed, visited wounded troops, posed for photographs and inquired whether anyone was from her home state of North Carolina. She also rode in military helicopters and fired a howitzer.

“The USO tours and programs I’ve been part of have definitely been the highlight of my career,” Kellie said. “So I’m honored to join the USO in helping to raise awareness about the many precious moments that our troops and their families sacrifice due to their commitment and service to our country.”
