Dierks Bentley rings in each New Year with his annual Polar Bear Plunge – jumping into a freezing cold lake. Usually, he is home in Nashville and goes to nearby Percy Priest Lake for the jump. But for the past couple of years he has been in Orlando for a New Year’s Eve Show. This year, when he went to his trusty Orlando pond to take the plunge, he found an “Alligator Warning” sign posted, causing a change in plans.
To keep his annual tradition intact, he filled a kiddie pool with cold water and ice and climbed in. “No lake today; had to improvise,” he tweeted. “Improvising” turned out to be a long soak in a yellow kiddie pool full of ice. At one point, Dierks even pulled out a banjo and picked a few tunes.
As far as New Year’s resolutions, Dierks has a simple one. “Just to be really present wherever I am,” he said. “From hanging out with my girls and boy, really spending time with them and having fun with family, and certainly being on the road with the guys in the band and the show, just being totally present in that moment and making it as good as can be.”
Dierks’ latest single, “I Hold On,” is climbing the charts at country radio. It is the featured track on his upcoming album, Riser.
