The Band Perry will cover the funeral expenses for Nikki Watson and her eight children who died in a house fire in Muhlenberg, Kentucky last Thursday, reports WLKY, confirmed by Calvary Baptist Church Pastor Tim Burden. A gathering was held in the Central City church Friday night to mourn the tragic loss and pray for the father, Chad, and his 11 year old daughter Kiley who survived the fire.
While candles were lit and songs were sung, a cousin of the Watson family thanked those gathered for their support. He also updated the mourners on the condition of Chad and Kylie, saying that Chad is in very critical condition while Kylie woke up briefly on Friday and asked if she and her father were the only ones that survived. The vigil lasted about 30 minutes.
The fire was caused by a baseboard heater. According to Kentucky State Police, Nikki Watson and the eight children who were killed all died of smoke inhalation. Police also said they were all found in the master bedroom, an indication they were trying to escape through a window.
Calvary Baptist Church, where the vigil was held, is the same church where Nikki and Chad Watson met, fell in love, got married and brought their family every Sunday for worship.
