George Strait was humbled to hear his name listed among the artists up for Entertainer of the Year at this weekend’s ACM Awards. He last won the award in 1989 although he has been nominated in the category several times.

“To be here and still being a part of the business and nominated for awards and current and everything, it’s just unbelievable,” George said. “And I’m enjoying every bit of it.”

Darius Rucker is also headed to Las Vegas for the ACM Awards. He is up for three awards for his cover of “Wagon Wheel” which features Lady Antebellum — Single, Song and Vocal Event of the Year. Lady A wasn’t on the first cut of the song, however. The trio was added to the track following a conversation between Darius and his producer, Frank Rogers.

“We cut it, and after we finished it, it was great,” Darius said. “And then Frank Rogers and I were talking about what we’re gonna do, and I was like, ‘You know, I’m on tour with Lady A. Let’s see if they’ll sing on the backgrounds. They loved the song and came in and did it. I cut it to put it as the last song on my record, to end the record that way. When they were done, I was like, ‘Man, it’ll probably be second, and if it’s the first single, I’m OK with that too.’ It was just so great.”

The ACM Awards will air live from Las Vegas on CBS on Sunday, April 6 at 8/7c.
