George Jones’ widow, Nancy Jones, has announced The George Jones Scholarship Fund at Middle Tennessee State University, a living memorial to her late husband, has raised in excess of $171,000. The scholarship will go aid students, many of whom are the first generation in their families to pursue college, in pursing their educations at MTSU.
“George received help from people as he strove to have a country music career, so I am thrilled that we will be able to help young people in the name of George Jones,” Nancy said. “I know he would have loved this.”
In celebration of George’s passing on April 26, 2013, at the age of 81, Nancy and the Jones family planted two dogwood trees at the “He Stopped Loving Her Today” monument at Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville. “I am determined to keep George’s legacy alive,” Nancy said. “George loved his fans so much. They supported him throughout his entire career.”
