Carrie Underwood is enjoying some downtime – sort of. Even though she isn’t currently touring, she is hard at work on her highly anticipated fifth studio album. While she hasn’t revealed many details, she did share a bit about what she’s working on with Us Weekly earlier this week at the TIME 100 Gala where she was honored as one of Time’s 100 most influential people.
“I’ve been writing quite a bit, it’s exciting!” she said. “It definitely has a different sound. There are some thematic things that are quite different. I love strong women. So I want things that I can get on stage and just feel empowered.”
Carrie’s husband, Mike Fisher, who plays for the Nashville Predators, is also enjoying some time off – and giving his wife space to work. “I’ve been just kind of hanging out, just kind of being home and enjoying that,” he told the magazine. “I stay out of her way. I go golfing or go fishing or something.”
“He stays away,” Carrie confirmed. “That whole creative process is such a weird thing, and I’ve talked to other people in the music business and friends and what they do and we all kind of have our own ‘isms. I go in and I’m like caffeinated. I get jacked up on caffeine and then I come home and crash.”
While many of her fellow country stars are gearing up to head out on summer tours, Carrie has other plans. She and Mike will head to Canada this summer to spend some time with Mike’s family.
