Carrie Underwood’s ‘The Sound of Music’ Receives Emmy Nominations

Carrie Underwood made her debut as Maria in The Sound of Music Live!’ in December 2013 on NBC. While Underwood received some criticism for her performance, she can celebrate now that the musical garnered four Primetime Emmy nominations. The TV special was nominated for Outstanding Music Direction, Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Special Class Program and Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special

The broadcast was a live television re-working of the musical on which the Julie Andrews movie was based. Underwood starred as Maria von Trapp alongside Stephen Moyer, Audra McDonald, Christian Borle and Laura Benanti. The special drew a total of 44 million viewers.

Underwood is currently working on her fifth studio album although no additional details have been released about the project. The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Seth Meyers, will air live on Monday, August 25 on NBC.
