Miranda Lambert’s love of animals is well-known, especially her passion for rescuing dogs. She recently shared her emotional story of helping a pet shelter in Tishomingo, Okla. where she lives with husband Blake Shelton. The yellow lab her parents had when she was born started it all.
“He slept under my crib and I think he was the one who started my love of dogs,” she said. “I feel like they love you for you, you know. That’s why I have six.”
Watch Miranda Lambert’s story below:
Lambert began working with the Tishomingo Animal Shelter after meeting the town’s head of animal control. When she saw the shelter – or lack of one – she and her MuttNation Foundation decided to step in.
“I was like, ‘What shelter? There is no shelter,’” she said. “It broke my heart. I called my mom, crying, and I was like, ‘We have to do something in Tishomingo. There’s nothing.’”
Pedigree joined Lambert and MuttNation Foundation in their efforts to provide a better home for rescued animals in Tishomingo, providing workers and food. Thanks to their hard work, Tishomingo now boasts a shelter with a yard, tire tunnels, an agility course and more.
“It’s all about those dogs in those enclosures that need a home,” Lambert said. “That’s what we’re doing today, because when I came here, there was nothing.”
