Kenny Chesney’s love of football is well known. He sings about it in “The Boys of Fall” and has made documentaries about it with friend and longtime director Shaun Silva, including The Boys of Fall and The Color Orange: The Condredge Holloway Story. The pair have teamed up once more to co-produce The Believer, a documentary about legendary NCAA football coach Steve Spurrier.

Spurrier, currently the coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks, is perhaps best known for coaching the Florida Gators.

The film follows Spurrier’s career, from his own college career at Florida, where he was a two-time All-American Quarterback and Heisman winner, through his time in the NFL. After retiring, he began coaching first at Florida, later with the Washington Redskins and, finally, with the Gamecocks.

“They spent a lot of time with my family, wife, kids, grandkids and so forth, and a lot of former players,” Spurrier said at SEC media day recently. “So hopefully it will turn out OK.” The Believer will premiere on August 27 on the SEC Network. Chesney will release his new album, The Big Revival, on September 23.
