Lucy Hale appears on the cover of the September 2014 issue of Cosmopolitan. In the feature story, she discusses her transition to country music, how superficial Hollywood can be and her 50 Shades of Grey audition. Her move from star of Pretty Little Liars to country music wasn’t an easy one. “So many people didn’t want to touch the project with a 10-foot pole,” she told the magazine. “Literally, I had people laughing and saying, ‘You’re making an album? Good luck.’ But if you sit down and talk music with me for 10 minutes, you know that’s my passion.”
Hale also spoke frankly about the “Hollywood look.” As one of the leads on ABC’s Pretty Little Liars, she has people who do her hair and makeup and pick out her wardrobe. She knows she is a role model to young women and wants them to know what they see on TV isn’t real. “Pretty Little Liars is about how we look too,” she said. “That’s terrifying sometimes because you’re breaking out or you feel gross, and you still have to be in front of the camera. We’ll post pictures on Instagram and people will be like, ‘Y’all are so flawless.’ Little do they know it’s fake hair, fake eyelashes and a good filter. Little girls see that and think they have to be like that.” Hale recently released her new single, “Lie A Little Better.” Her debut album, Road Between, is available now.
