Sarah Darling and James Muriel tied the knot in a secret spur-of-the-moment ceremony back in April 2013 — but they’re still planning a big Nashville wedding in May 2014 to celebrate with family and friends! Sarah’s sharing her personal wedding diary exclusively with Great American Country. She’ll take us along on the whole journey, from the dress to the flowers to the big day. Check back every other Wednesday for a new post from Sarah!

The Wedding Registry:
This your chance to create the dream wish list for your home and new life together. What could easily be considered one of the most fun parts of planning a wedding sometimes ends up becoming stressful and overwhelming. It’s also extremely hard in the moment to pick things you actually like as a couple! Imagine yourself in a busy department store thinking of what you’ve always dreamed of. I find myself asking, ‘Do I really need a cake pop machine?’ I don’t know about you but I get hot flashes in those situations, and immediately want to beeline to the nearest Starbucks!

That’s when online shopping comes in. In fact, James and I chose a lot of our registry online. To avoid ending up with dozens of serving dishes, mismatched plates and no flatware at all, really take the time to register things that you both will like — and will want — in your new place together.

There are also questions to ask yourself: What type of couple are you? Do you both like cooking? Entertaining? Are you adventure seekers? Do you enjoy wine, cocktails, or beer? All of the above, none of the above? How you answer these questions will determine what you should be registering for. When you get down to it, James and I are all of the above.

We both definitely love cooking. I think if we had our way, we would have every kitchen gadget imaginable. Before James moved to Nashville, we would do Skype cooking together! We also love to travel and enjoy nice bottles of vino. Now it’s getting fun! This is the perfect way to start your registering. Continue Reading

Food:
Only two months now until the wedding. I’m actually starting to feel like I’m ahead of everything. At this point it’s about reconnecting with all of my vendors. Let’s start with food! James and I both are foodies, so creating a fun menu for the
wedding that fits us both was important. For those who are reading this for the first time, James is British. With that, comes different traditions. When I think of Tennessee, I think of barbeque pulled pork. When I think of London, I think Yorkshire puddings. We’ve decided to incorporate traditional British fare with a twist of down-home southern. We’ve also chosen family style for serving, which is completely different! It’s also a good way to allow guests to meet one another.Choosing the dessert was one of my favorite parts. You will soon see what we chose!

Spirits:
As you know, weddings are a cause for celebrating — with all kinds of fun spirits! We’ve decided on two signature cocktails and beer and wine. Basically each cocktail represents our favorite drinks! James chose something called a Pimms Cup. It’s a traditional British drink that is refreshing in the summertime. I encourage you to Google it right now! It may be your new favorite. It will be served in a mason jar with the vintage striped straws that have become quite popular. It will be a hit.

My drink is on the more feminine side. It’s champagne with a spash of St. Germain and a twist of lemon. I always think it’s fun when you choose beer and wine that is local. For example, we have wonderful breweries here such as Yazoo and
Jackalope. Also, Kix Brooks has a beautiful winery outside of Nashville called Arrington Vineyards.

Accessories:
We are coming down to the wire on putting our bridal party together. James had a tough choice of going with a vintage style suit for his wardrobe or doing a traditional morning suit. You may have seen these on Downton Abbey. It’s the reason I fell in love with him in the first place. When I think of British men, it’s the sexy accent, top hats, and styled clothing. Need I say more?

I decided to incorporate some gorgeous belts from Anthropologie to my bridesmaid dresses. I’m into mismatching pieces! Every girl will have Continue Reading

Designer Wedding:
Welcome back to my blog series! I am getting really excited for the big day. I have come to the most exciting part of planning – designing all the fabulous details for my wedding! From the fabulous farm tables to sweet mason jars with wildflowers, you can’t leave anything out. So I decided to sit down with wedding designer Trina Chaney-Hoo from The Planning Company to get ideas. They are a successful company based out of Florida and do the most beautiful weddings you’ve ever seen. She met with me and my two BFFs and we talked ideas.

A good designer knows his or her client. Trina had done her research before I arrived. I looked at an iPad full of amazing ideas that were totally me. One of my favorites involved mason jars with daises and lemons. Such a cute idea! Having a great designer will help bring your visions to life.

Bachelorette Bliss
Welcome back to my wedding blog! The days are flying by. The wedding will be here before you know it! I’m getting so excited to have our families together in Nashville.

One of the perks of getting married is enjoying all of the parties, especially the famous bachelorette party! There is always so much hype to really have some epic night. The movie “The Hangover” comes to mind already. Nobody wants any missing teeth and I’ve never been much of a club girl. My idea of a party is drinking a nice Sauvignon Blanc at a wine bar listening to music. When my best friends said they had the most perfect bachelorette party planned for me, I was thrilled!

It started three weeks ago today. My two best friends and I started a journey to an unknown place. They had kept it a secret and I was loving the intrigue of not knowing. I knew we were headed to the East Coast. One hundred selfies later, we arrived in the quaint town of Washington, Connecticut.

I couldn’t believe my eyes! Honestly, I felt like I was in a movie driving through this sweet place. The ground was snow-covered and the trees were magical. Soon we arrived at the destination. It was the Mayflower Grace! I do want to add that I absolutely loved the name from the start. My BFFs had taken me to spa! Not just any spa, but one of the most exquisite spas in the world. Welcome back to my wedding blog series! Spring is almost here and the wedding is getting even closer. It’s now down to getting the little details in place. I wanted to do a special post on Front Porch Farms in Tennessee. This is where James and I will be getting hitched later this year! If you love the rustic country feel, this may be the venue for you, or at least give you some amazing ideas on what kind of setting you would like. I knew from the moment I stood on the property that it was “the one.”

The owners, Kathy and Brian Best, are the most lovely people with an amazing story. Kathy also is a wedding planner and coordinator. You may not have known this fact, but Blake Shelton & Miranda Lambert had their engagement party at Front Porch Farms! The main house is located on top of a hillside with miles of magnificent views of the Tennessee countryside and the Harpeth River. Double porches, front and back, run the length of the house, allowing guests plenty of room and privacy to relax and enjoy the down-home comfort of porch swings and rocking chairs swaying in sweet rhythm under the cool southern breeze.

Since “The Notebook” is my favorite film, you can understand just why I love this. And James, being from England, really wanted to have a rustic style wedding. It is completely different than what he’s used to! Have you seen the movie “Four Weddings and a Funeral?” That is pretty much what it’s like! I have always imagined myself outdoors on that special day. The question is, where do you see yourself? It’s important to ask yourself so your wedding is everything you’ve ever wanted.

The Trending Bride

Welcome to blog number four! Can you believe it’s almost February!? Only a few months until the wedding day! It all goes so fast. For any of you who are planning a wedding right now, I hope you are enjoying the process of it all. That journey is the best part. Last time we talked about decor and flowers – and by the way, I’ve become obsessed with a flower called an anemone. Google it!

I’ve also been making tons of French Macarons in all shapes, colors and sizes (photos above). I secretly have been practicing to make my own wedding cake. Yes, I said it! For those of you who know me, you know my love for baking, especially French baking! I thought it would be fun to add a personal touch to the wedding. I’ll let you know where I get to in the next blog. Those Macarons can be fickle to make!

Hashtags
In social media, a goal is to “trend” on Twitter or Facebook using hashtags. As a country music artist, social media has become my direct line to fans from all over the world. I love being able to connect with people who love the same things I do. So I was thinking, ‘Why not use social media for the best day of your life?’ There’s no better day to trend! Of course it may not have the same response as the #royalwedding with Kate and Wills but it’s fun and it’s your day.

Trending tips: Think about all the amazing things that brought you and your husband-to-be together. Do you have any special memories – something  that is unique to just the two of you? When I was thinking about this for James and me, my mind immediately went to an ocean scene. We spent a year and a half doing a long distance relationship. For any of you who have experienced that, it is not for the weak! I do believe it makes you stronger. There were so many times I would think about the Atlantic Ocean in between us.

One day I sent James this beautiful song via email called “Ocean Size Love” by Leigh Nash. Every word was written for us, I swear! That’s why I think #OCEANSIZELOVE is the most perfect hashtag for us! Don’t get me wrong, we could have gone with #Murielwedding2014 or #DarlingBrit but #OCEANSIZELOVE is perfect. So do me a favor. If you have any questions about wedding planning or want to send James and me a special message after reading this, use Continue Reading

The Flowers:
I’ve gotten a lot done since my last post! My wedding dress is currently in the mail. I can barely contain my excitement right now. This is what every girl dreams of. One of my favorite parts of planning a wedding so far is choosing the flowers and decor. Ladies, Pinterest is your friend. You can find just about anything!  Here’s my page — and Great American Country also has a wedding board on their Pinterest page.

Let’s start with picking colors. That is a very hard task for me. I love too many! I’ve settled on Spring colors, leaning more pastel. I am having a vintage-style wedding with a twist of bohemian, which allows you to use more colors and textures, which is fun. I wanted to choose a flower that was me. I’ve never been much for roses. I’m more of a daisy kind of a girl. Then I remembered how much I adore poppies! Yes, just like the “Wizard of Oz!” The only exception is that they will be pink instead of red. There is something so magical and whimsical about a poppy. That’s on my radar girls. I will let you know how it all turns out.

It’s always best to choose flowers and colors that are part of your personality, so on your big day you will be shining bright. It’s a good idea to meet with a few different florists to get ideas. You will know when you’ve met the right one.

The Centerpieces:
Once you have an idea of flowers, it’s fun to put your centerpiece ideas together. I’m a big fan of Continue Reading

The Dress
For most girls, it’s all about the wedding dress. I fall in that category for sure.  Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been drawn to puffy party dresses! When you get married, it gives you a chance to be a princess for a day. Who doesn’t want the Princess Kate fairytale? Plus, James is British!

Read how Sarah and James met >>

Deciding on a dress has been one of the hardest decisions so far. You always hear brides say that you will just know when you find ‘The One!’  But there are so many options! You have the mermaid, which I’ve never felt fit my personality, but I love it on everyone else. You have the big princess ball gown dress, which I love, but have a feeling I won’t be able to move on the dance floor — and that’s a deal breaker for me. This girl likes to dance!  Then there’s the A-line dress…right between princess and ball gown, which I think is perfect for me!  My style is very “Anthropologie”-like, so I’ve tracked down a few dresses that fit me and my style like a glove.

The venue is also important. Certain dresses fit certain scenes. James and I are getting married at what I think is one of the most beautiful venues on the planet! It’s very country/bohemian-like, so I’m hoping the dresses I’ve picked will fit that scene. Check out Front Porch Farms and tell me what you think!

When it comes to dress shopping, the first important step is to create a budget. You will find yourself wanting the more expensive dress, trust me! Continue Reading

Sarah Darling and James Muriel tied the knot in a secret spur-of-the-moment ceremony back in April — but they’re still planning a big Nashville wedding in May 2014 to celebrate with family and friends! Sarah’s sharing her personal wedding diary exclusively with Great American Country. She’ll take us along on the whole journey, from the dress to the flowers to the big day. Check back every other Wednesday for a new post from Sarah! Since this is Sarah’s first post, she starts at the beginning — how she and James met.

With amazing love comes even better stories.  I wanted to let everyone in on how I met the love of my life. I believe some things are orchestrated by God.  This is one of those things.

I actually met James’ father Andrew in 2010 before I ever got to meet James. I had been approached to sing some demos for Andrew, who was a great songwriter. When we were in the studio, he mentioned that he had a son he thought I would love! I laughed and didn’t think much of it. Anyhow, the most memorable song I recorded for Andrew was a beautiful one he wrote called ‘Rejoice at Christmas.’ After recording it, Andrew made one of my life-long dreams come true – he invited me to sing it at Carnegie Hall around Christmas time that year. I said yes without hesitation!

While the fall months passed, I was out on the road and received an email from James Muriel, Andrew’s son. He was writing to inform me that his father had passed away tragically and thought I should know. He said his father was one of my biggest fans and thought so much of me.  I simply couldn’t fathom the pain James and his family must be going through.

A few days later, James’ family informed me that despite the tragedy, Carnegie Hall was still happening. And they wanted to know if I would consider flying to London and singing the songs Andrew had me record, at a special memorial for him. I barely knew the family but something inside of me said, “Go!”  I prayed a lot about it and God gave me a peace about going.

More photos of Country Star Weddings >>

It was at the memorial service that I first met James.  Of course it was one of the most horrible circumstances to be in at the time, but the best way to describe it is, when I saw him, I felt changed. I was dating somebody at that time, so I didn’t intentionally WANT to have interest in James… I just felt this strong connection to him in a way I had never felt. Continue Reading
