Two of country music’s biggest superstars have topped Billboard’s annual Top 40 Money Makers list. Taylor Swift takes the crown as the highest, earning $39,699,575.60 in 2013 while Kenny Chesney comes in at No. 2, racking up $32,956,240.70 last year. Billboard used data supplied by Nielsen SoundScan to calculate earnings from touring, recorded-music sales, publishing royalties and revenue from digital music and video streaming.
While Taylor can report strong earnings on everything from music sales to branding and sponsorship, touring was where she padded her bank account last year. The North American leg of her international Red Tour made an estimated $30 million, not counting integrated sponsorships and retail booth revenue which is estimated to have brought in an additional $10 million gross. Danielle Bradbery’s 2013 debut album. Photo courtesy of BMLG.
Danielle Bradbery had never stepped foot on a stage before auditioning for NBC’s The Voice. She has been learning from the best since being crowned the show’s season four winner and signing with her label, Big Machine Records. There are three artists in particular that have been more than willing to give her advice, including The Voice coach Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert and label mate Taylor Swift.
“I got to be face to face with Taylor,” said Danielle. “She knew I was on a radio tour at the time, and still am, but she goes, ‘I knew how that was and I started young like you, and the more it goes on, the more you’re gonna see you’re gonna have so much fun with everything.’ She was just [saying] ‘Don’t give up, it’s gonna get more and more fun.’ It was really awesome getting to hear that from her.” Continue Reading

Blake Shelton photo courtesy of Warner Bros. Nashville.
Blake Shelton is pulling out all the stops in the music video for his new single, “Doin’ What She Likes.” The clip starts off with a phone call between Blake and wife Miranda Lambert, asking her if they could stay in tonight and promising to make dinner. “I think it’d be good for me,” he tells her. “Fan the flames a little bit.”
The evening starts off well enough. Blake makes dinner – and a pitcher of margaritas – and tidies up around the house before heading upstairs to light some of those “watermelon candles” and draw a bubble bath. Thinking he’d surprise Miranda with a trail of rose petals, Blake gets to work lining the path, only to discover the candles have ignited the house on fire.
Does Blake tell Miranda the bad news about their home? Watch the video below to find out! Continue Reading

Blake Shelton on the Grand Ole Opry. Photo by Chris Hollo, courtesy of Schmidt Relations.
The Grand Ole Opry will celebrate 40 years of music at its permanent home, the Grand Ole Opry House, beginning the weekend of March 15 and continuing throughout the year. The celebration will lead up to next year’s 90th anniversary (the Opry was founded on November 28, 1925). Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Clint Black, Diamond Rio and Josh Turner will perform during the two Opry House Anniversary performances on March 15.
The Grand Ole Opry House is the Opry’s sixth home. It is also the only home built specifically for the Opry and where the Opry has called home the longest. The Opry House opened on March 16, 1974 with a standing room only performance attended by President and Mrs. Richard Nixon, marking the first time a U.S. president ever attended the Opry. Nixon is still the only president to have performed on the Opry, having played “My Wild Irish Rose” and “God Bless America” on the Opry’s upright piano as well as “Happy Birthday” for his wife, who was celebrating her birthday that night.
