Aaron Tippin’s Back in the Pilot Seat on GAC’s Day Jobs

Aaron Tippin

Aaron Tippin is returning to the skies as part of GAC’s new TV series Day Jobs. While the highlight of his resume might be ‘country singer’ these days, Aaron was a pilot specializing in business transport. “Although I love singing for a living, if the energy crunch had not hit in the ’80s, I’d still be a pilot,” he said. The episode airs October 30 at 8/7 Central.

On Day Jobs, country stars go back to the jobs they worked before they got their big music break and put in a full day of labor. Each one-hour episode follows three country stars as they return to their former roles and discover if they still have what it takes. They also realize just how much those early jobs shaped their lives today.

On Aaron’s episode of Day Jobs, he will fly a few businessmen’s wives on a day trip to shop. Aaron will do every job from engine maintenance to making coffee – and be reminded he can’t control the weather. In the same episode, Darryl Worley will return to the water as a commercial fisherman and David Nail heads back to his Missouri hometown to work as a Dairy Queen employee for the day. Stars Return to Their ‘Day Jobs’ in New GAC Series

Trace Adkins on the set of Day Jobs.

Before the hit songs, awards and thousands of screaming fans, country stars held day jobs just like those who love their music. In Day Jobs, an original series premiering on Sunday, October 2 at 8 PM/ET, several of today’s top stars step away from the stage lights and put in a full day’s work the way they did before they made it big.

Each one-hour episode of Day Jobs follows three stars as they work a shift in a variety of jobs ranging from offshore oil rig roughneck to cattle rancher, women’s shoe salesman, pilot and waitress. As they work, they realize just how far they’ve come and how those early jobs helped shaped their life today.

Every participant agreed to put in a full eight-hour day and some had to undergo additional training. Before Trace Adkins returned to his former job as a roughneck on an offshore oil rig, he had to spend a day in safety training. Joe Nichols had to become certified to drive a forklift before spending a day loading pallets and filling orders in a warehouse. Continue Reading

GAC’s Top 10 Workin’ Man (& Woman) Videos

Aaron Tippin earned a PhD, Merle Haggard’s got the blues and Travis Tritt asks for mercy. When it comes to country music, the working man is one busy guy. But only a few artists can “bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan” in their videos. We worked overtime to come up with the top country music videos in which a star takes on the role of “Regular Joe.” In no particular order, here’s our Top 10 (plus a couple extras). If you don’t see your favorite on the list, let us know by leaving a comment below!

“Is There Life Out There” – Reba McEntire

YouTube Preview Image
It’s 1991, and Reba is working her way through school as a part-time waitress and full-time mother. You’d think with ‘90s megastar Huey Lewis as her husband, she could afford a little help. More a short film than a music video, her acting led to the starring role in an actual TV movie by the same title. According to Reba, the song has inspired many women through the years to go back to college.

“40-Hour Week” – Alabama

YouTube Preview Image
Randy Owen’s a welder, Jeff Cook’s a truck driver, Mark Herndon’s a coal miner and Teddy Gentry is the “one out in the warehouse bringing in the load.” Be sure to catch his wink. But there’s no doubt that the hardest workers in this video are the dancers. It’s like a “Fame” factory!

“All-American Girl” – Carrie Underwood

From flight attendant to painter, firefighter to welder, Carrie is a jack of all trades in this fun clip. The costume changes alone are a full-time job. Check out all of Carrie’s occupations HERE! Continue Reading

Fans Choose Top 10 Boating Songs

Jimmy Buffett photo courtesy of Discover Boating.

Summertime is in full swing and what better way to beat the heat than on a boat with good friends and good music? Discover Boating, the U.S. recreational boating industry’s non-profit awareness program, asked its 195,000 Facebook fans what music best captures time spent on a boat. More than 1,500 votes put Jimmy Buffett’s “A Pirate Looks at 40″ in the top spot and filled the rest of the Top 10 list with songs by Craig Morgan, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band and more.

“Music adds to the escape factor you feel when you’re out on the water with friends and family,” says Carl Blackwell, president of Discover Boating. “Boating allows you to disconnect from the stress on land and when you add your favorite songs to that experience, it takes the relaxation element of boating to a whole new level.”

Here are the Top 10 Boating Songs according to Discover Boating fans.

1. “A Pirate Looks at 40″ - Jimmy Buffett

While it doesn’t look like there is an official video of this track, this is a great live performance by Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band at Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, VA. Released in 1975, it was a No. 1 hit and is a Parrothead favorite. Written by Jimmy, the song is a modern day pirate’s reflection of the first 40 years of his life.

2. “Come Sail Away” - Styx

This track starts off as a piano ballad before a guitar-heavy second half comes in to close out the song. Styx member Dennis DeYoung admitted to writing the song while depressed over lower than expected album sales. The song has been featured on adult cartoons South Park and Family Guy.

3. “Redneck Yacht Club” – Craig Morgan

YouTube Preview Image

It wouldn’t be a boating Top 10 without Craig Morgan’s “Redneck Yacht Club.” Filmed at Percy Priest Lake in Nashville, the video shows Craig and his buddies having fun on and around the water. A long-haired Blake Shelton and Aaron Tippin make cameos and you have to admire both Craig’s jet ski skills and his daredevil stunt that lands both himself and a four wheeler in the water. The Meaning Behind Aaron Tippin’s Tattoo

Aaron Tippin photo courtesy of Tip Top Entertainment.

At first glance, the tattoo on Aaron Tippin’s right arm looks like a crescent and a palmetto tree – the symbol of his home state, South Carolina. According to research, the tree is a tribute to the palmetto logs used to build Ft. Moultrie during the Revolutionary War. The crescent has been a topic of debate, however. Some say it’s a moon, but researchers say it’s an adaption of the gorget, a piece of armor used to protect the neck.

A tattoo is, of course, permanent, so when Aaron made the decision to made the decision to get inked, he was careful to make sure it was meaningful. “I wouldn’t be scared to go to church with my sleeves rolled up,” Aaron said. “I know Continue Reading

A new year is around the corner, and so are new administrations in many of the nation’s states. Not to mention a few new folks occupying seats in Congress.

That means parties, and that also means an opportunity for country stars to show off their wares. Jo Dee Messina, Luke Bryan, John Michael Montgomery and LeAnn Rimes have all been enlisted to help usher the politicians into their new positions in four different locales.

Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban: Get Stuffed With Country On Thanksgiving

Carrie Underwood photo courtesy of Sony Music Nashville.

Thanksgiving is officially a holiday, but that won’t stop many of country music’s top stars from working while the rest of us eat.

Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban and James Otto are a few of the artists who have Turkey Day activities planned. Some of those appearances — including Taylor’s first-ever network special — were already shot. But others, such as Gloriana’s appearance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, indeed occur in real time.

Here’s a roundup of country-related Thanksgiving stuff:

We all know Aaron Tippin as one of the most recognizable and influential voices in country music.  And you may also know that Aaron is a highly experienced airmen who owns some vintage planes including a 1941 Stearman bi-plane.  I’ve personally had the honor and thrill of taking a short flight in that plane over the hills of Middle Tennessee with Aaron at the controls.  Now Aaron is putting his two passions together for what may be one of the most unique tours I’ve ever seen come across my desk.
