When Taylor Swift announced the release date of her Red album and debuted the project’s lead single, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” during a live chat in August, there was no doubt that the album would be a big seller. The single itself shattered sales records, topping iTunes charts in under an hour and setting the record for the biggest digital sales week ever for a song by a female artist.

Following Red’s official October 22 release, Taylor had more than a million reasons to smile. The project moved 1.208 million copies in its first week to reach platinum status, making it music’s highest weekly sales number since Eminem’s The Eminem Show in 2002. Taylor is the only female artist – and the fourth artist ever – to sell more than one million albums in first week sales twice. Continue Reading

Watch the Luke Bryan Farm Tour Concert Special on GAC

Luke Bryan

Luke Bryan during his 2012 Farm Tour.

“I always dreamed of coming to Nashville and putting music out that drove people to come to a live show and join in the live show experience,” says Luke Bryan in Luke Bryan Farm Tour, a concert special premiering Wednesday, November 28 at 10p|9c on Great American Country (GAC). Luke’s energetic, hit-filled live show was filmed before 14,000 of his closest friends at one of his Farm Tour stops in Athens, GA. As the tour’s charitable endeavor, proceeds from the Farm Tour go to college scholarships for students from a farming family within the communities the tour played. GAC is pleased to present the platinum star’s first televised concert special.

Watch a Sneak Peek >>

“Growing up in Georgia we’d put some speakers in a tractor shed, call a few folks, light a big bonfire, collect money at the cattle gate and that was our gig,” Luke jokes about the Farm Tour prototype. “This is the same thing; it’s just a lot bigger.”  The star’s recent eight-city Farm Tour attracted 100,000 fans, doubling the attendance of his ’11 Farm Tour.   Swelling crowds are something he’ll have to get used to as he embarks on his first headlining tour, Dirt Road Diaries, in 2013 and he’s quick to give credit to Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and Jason Aldean.  “When I rewind and look back over the years of getting to open for Chesney and McGraw and Aldean, I’ve taken little things and watched what they do,” he says.  “The pressure is trying to put on the best show and reinventing what the country music audience might have already seen.”

Viewers will be treated to performances of “Rain is a Good Thing,” “Do I,” “Drunk on You,” “Don’t Want This Night to End,” ”Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye,” “Shore Thing,” “Country Girl Shake It For Me” and “Mukalee Creek Water” backed by his band and surrounded by state-of-the-art staging, lighting and even fireworks.  They’ll also get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into everything that goes into producing such a large-scale concert. While in Athens, Luke also stops by the Georgia Theatre, the place that while growing up, he dreamed of playing.  “I’ll never forget the joy of selling out the Georgia Theatre and the fact that we never had set lists onstage, I’d just call the songs out,” he recalls.  “I never want to lose that spontaneity, I’ve always wanted to keep it real, let it be about having fun and grow the show.”

Luke recently picked up his first American Music Award for “Favorite Male Country Artist;” he’s had quite the year and is currently enjoying a three-week No. 1 single, “Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye.” He also just celebrated three back-to-back double platinum singles, “Country Girl (Shake It For Me),” “I Don’t Want This Night To End” and “Drunk On You,” all from his platinum-certified album, tailgates & tanlines. The Leesburg, GA, native has achieved six career No. 1 singles and tailgates & tanlines has remained a Top 5 album for all of 2012. Bryan will launch his first major headlining tour — the “Dirt Road Diaries Tour” — January 17.

Luke is also nominated for seven American Country Awards. The ACAs will air Monday, December 10 at 8p|7c on FOX.

“It’s gonna be interesting trying to find turkey there,” she said. “That’s kinda how my life goes. Wherever I’m gonna be I’m gonna be. I know that when I am putting out a record all bets are off.  I just put my head down and wake up when they tell me to and I just do what I’m told… like, a lot. That sounds depressing but I kinda think it’s fun.” Continue Reading

Lauren Alaina

Lauren Alaina celebrated her 18th birthday on November 8 and was surprised over the weekend with a special prom-themed birthday bash. Lauren missed her Junior Prom while on tour and the idea was to re-create the event for her. Under the impression she was going to dinner with a small group of family and friends, Lauren was taken to a location in her hometown of Rossville, GA where her family and friends – and a prom dress! –  were waiting.

Among the guests were several of the special needs teenagers Lauren, an ambassador for the Special Olympics Project Unify, spent time with during high school. Many of them were named honorary prom kings and queens during the party. Also in attendance was Jordan Trunfio, a high school student from Springfield, VA suffering from a brain tumor whom Lauren surprised at his Homecoming dance. Continue Reading
