When they first came to national attention with “Brand New Man” in 1991, Brooks & Dunn were an unlikely combo — a couple of guys who moved to Nashville with dreams of becoming solo performers who were sort of glued together by a Music Row executive.
By the time Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn wound it down with the Last Rodeo Tour in 2010, they had become the most commercially successful duo in country music history — better known than Country Music Hall of Famers the Louvin Brothers with more hits than Hall of Famers the Everly Brothers.
The Brooks & Dunn breakup ranks No. 5 as GAC counts down the dozen top stories of the past year.

When Tim McGraw agreed to appear in the movie Country Strong as the husband and manager of a fading country star, he unwittingly set himself up for what might be his best on-screen performance to date.
The movie’s lead character — Kelly Canter, played by Gwyneth Paltrow — is struggling with an addiction that played itself out in front of her fans, and Tim’s character sees it as his duty to help her revitalize her career. As a result, he runs through a lot of emotions during the course of the picture, and in one particular moment, it requires Tim to do something that even fulltime actors find difficult.

Kix Brooks, Trace Adkins and Buddy Jewell are among the latest acts taking time from their schedules to honor the soldiers who put their lives on the line for their country.
Kix is in the midst of a Middle East tour, Buddy just headed out with with a package of country singers that will visit four countries, and Trace is set to appear on a TV special with a military theme before his own USO journey.

Ever since he appeared in the 2004 films Black Cloud and Friday Night Lights, Tim McGraw has had a fairly regular supply of roles in the movies.
The latest news in that department: He’ll appear in the spy drama Safe House, set to start shooting in South Africa, according to comingsoon.net. The movie stars Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington. Tim revealed his involvement during an interview for Country Strong, the film in which Gwyneth Paltrow plays a country star.
In that picture, set for national release Jan. 7, Tim portrays the husband/manager of Gwyneth’s character, Kelly Canter, taking the struggling singer out of rehab early in an attempt to jump-start her career before she loses her fan base.
GAC recently spoke to Tim, Gwyneth and other cast members at the red carpet premiere in Nashville. Check out our red carpet photos and exclusive interviews with all of them HERE and watch Tim’s interview below:
Because of the subject matter, Tim’s role with Country Strong went deeper than usual. Country music is, after all, a world he knows quite well.

It’s been a big year for Chris Young, who got New Artist nominations from the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association and is up for his first Grammy Award for “Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song).”
But one other major moment came when he recorded “Love Don’t Let Me Down,” a duet with Patty Loveless that appears on the Country Strong soundtrack. The movie, which stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw, comes out nationally Jan. 7, and the duet is something of a milestone for Chris.
Gwyneth is an actress, but she’s taking a shot at being a country singer through the Country Strong soundtrack. She sings several songs on the album, which accompanies a movie that has her portraying a vocalist, and she’ll even make her live performance debut as a country singer during the CMA awards Nov. 10.
While Gwyneth is kind of an outsider working her way into country, Sugarland is an inside artist that’s pushing out against the stylistic boundaries of country. The duo just released a new album, The Incredible Machine. The first single, “Stuck Like Glue,” has some reggae elements in it, and it’s been a bit controversial as a result. And that’s exactly what Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush had in mind when they recorded it.
By now, most of you have heard about the upcoming release of a new movie called Country Strong, starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw. What you might not know is how involved Gwyneth Paltrow got in preparing for and playing the role of “Kelly Canter,” a just-out-of-rehab country singer trying to re-start her career. She actually learned how to play the guitar and is really the one singing the title track from the film. Of course it’s not bad to have the likes of Patty Griffin and Vince Gill providing harmony vocals on the track. Just a couple months ago we gave you a first listen to “Country Strong” and now the official music video is here. The video features Gwyneth performing with a full band in a warehouse setting blended with scenes from the film.
