Congratulations to Danny Gokey, who announced his engagement to girlfriend, Leyicet Peralta, on the website of his charity, Sophia’s Heart Foundation. The American Idol alum tragically lost his wife, Sophia, three year ago and started the charity in her honor.

Danny announced his engagement recently to family and friends.  The website reports the couple is planning a wedding for late January, 2012.

Danny & Leyicet have requested to their wedding guests that all gifts be in the form of a donation to Sophia’s Heart.

In other Danny Gokey news, he recently returned to truck driving for our new series, Day Jobs. See if he can still park a big rig today at 4 p.m. Eastern — and watch a sneak peek HERE.

Stars Return to Their ‘Day Jobs’ in New GAC Series

Trace Adkins on the set of Day Jobs.

Before the hit songs, awards and thousands of screaming fans, country stars held day jobs just like those who love their music. In Day Jobs, an original series premiering on Sunday, October 2 at 8 PM/ET, several of today’s top stars step away from the stage lights and put in a full day’s work the way they did before they made it big.

Each one-hour episode of Day Jobs follows three stars as they work a shift in a variety of jobs ranging from offshore oil rig roughneck to cattle rancher, women’s shoe salesman, pilot and waitress. As they work, they realize just how far they’ve come and how those early jobs helped shaped their life today.

Every participant agreed to put in a full eight-hour day and some had to undergo additional training. Before Trace Adkins returned to his former job as a roughneck on an offshore oil rig, he had to spend a day in safety training. Joe Nichols had to become certified to drive a forklift before spending a day loading pallets and filling orders in a warehouse. Continue Reading

Danny Gokey will help Gildan Activewear break the Guinness World Record for Largest T-Shirt on Saturday, June 11 during CMA Music Festival in Nashville. The t-shirt, nearly the size of a football field, is 170 feet wide and 262 feet long, weighs nearly three tons, and took six weeks to make. It will be used to create 12,000 shirts, which Gildan will donate to Keep the Music Playing, an organization that supports music education in Metro Nashville Public Schools.

“We’re excited to not only break the Guinness World Record but also, more importantly, to align with Keep the Music Playing through our donation,” said Randy Brown, vice president retail sales for Gildan. “Music education is so important to today’s youth and we’re thrilled to support the cause.”

The fabric for the t-shirt was produced at Gildan’s textile facility with yarn from spinning plants in North Carolina. Final construction of the t-shirt took place in Utah over more than four weeks and used sewing machines on a large track that sewed the rolls of fabric into larger panels for assembly. A flatbed trailer was used to bring the t-shirt 1,700 miles to Nashville. It will be unveiled at Centennial Park at 11:30 AM with help from more than 100 volunteers. A Guinness representative will be on hand to confirm the record has been broken. Continue Reading
