In response to last week’s devastating Tennessee floods, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have assembled a jaw-dropping lineup of talent for a June 22 benefit concert at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, one of the downtown venues that took in water when the Cumberland River overflowed its bank.
“Nashville Rising: A Benefit Concert For Flood Recovery” will also feature Brooks & Dunn, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Jason Aldean, Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, LeAnn Rimes, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Martina McBride. Even more acts are expected to be announced at a future date.

As the band celebrates 10 years of making hits, Rascal Flatts found a unique way Wednesday to recognize some of the people behind their success, throwing a party in which some of the songwriters who created their hits took the stage to sing them for the band.
Held at the Musicians Hall of Fame in Nashville, the event featured performances of eight Flatts hits — including “Mayberry,” “Fast Cars And Freedom,” “Prayin’ For Daylight” and “Bless The Broken Road” — by such writers as Jeff Hanna, Marcus Hummon, Neil Thrasher, Steve Bogard and Wendell Mobley. The band prepared special plaques for all 77 composers who’ve contributed to their multi-platinum cache.
“These are guys we’ve had history with for 10 years, you know, so it’s awesome to get a little spotlight on them for a change instead of sittin’ at one of our houses in pajamas tryin’ to write somethin’,” Flatts vocalist Gary LeVox says. “It’s been a while since we’ve seen ‘em. Of course, we’re all out on tour, they’re doin’ their thing, and we wanted to bring everybody together and just tell ‘em thanks.”

More than 100 trophies will be handed out on Sunday at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards to honor the best in music in 2009. Overlooked, but maybe just as important, are a few honors that recognize artists and musicians — including Loretta Lynn, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and guitarist Harold Bradley — for efforts that span a much broader scope of time.
The Dirt Band’s “Mr. Bojangles” has been added to the Grammy Hall of Fame, certifying it as a recording of long-term influence. Loretta and the late Roy Orbison are among the artists who will be hailed Saturday in Los Angeles with Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards. That same night, Harold will receive a Trustee’s Award for his work as a session musician, studio owner and former president of the Nashville chapters of the Recording Academy and the Musicians Union.
As if that’s not enough, the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and the Alabama Music Hall of Fame have both been featured in the news in the last week.
