On Saturday we shared the sad news of the passing of Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott’s grandmother.
Today, Music Row magazine reported these additional details: Linda Davis’ mother and Hillary’s grandmother, Lois “Onita” Davis, died July 14 in Carthage, Texas. She was 80 years old and her family describes her as a wonderful homemaker and devoted mother to three children, including Linda, daughter Vernell Owen (husband Jimmy), and son Troy “Tator” Davis (wife Sonya).
According to Music Row, Mrs. Davis worked for years in the local school cafeteria and was a longtime Continue Reading

A bevy of stars just dropped in on Connecticut Saturday to see what condition Kenny Rogers’ career was in. The tribute concert — shot for a forthcoming TV special, “Kenny Rogers: The First 50 Years” — underscored what an incredible hit-making career it’s been.
Wynonna Judd kicked off the event, according to The Hartford Courant, with the original members of the First Edition in a version of Kenny’s psychedelic-era single “Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In).”
From there, it was a parade of stars and hits: Alison Krauss turned in “But You Know I Love You”; Linda Davis covered “Daytime Friends”; Billy Dean sang “Love Will Turn You Around” and the Oak Ridge Boys joined Kenny on “The Gambler.” The entire ensemble — including Smokey Robinson, Dolly Parton, Sheena Easton, Lionel Richie and Chris Isaak — closed the show with a mass rendition of “Islands In The Stream.”

With the No. 1 album in the nation and the most nominations for this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards, Lady Antebellum picked a perfect time to have its personal history intersect with country’s bigger history. The band headlined Wednesday for the first time at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and left little doubt that it will soon be headlining everywhere.
View photos from yesterday’s rehearsal and show — and check back tomorrow for more pics from tonight’s concert!
In the first of two sold-out shows, the trio deftly tied together its pop-sprinkled sound and the venue’s traditional-country background, getting a standing ovation for its encore and demonstrating a flexibility that should serve the group well.

Following their joint appearance last June in the opening event at Dallas’ new Cowboys Stadium, George Strait and Reba McEntire kicked off a co-headlining tour Jan. 22 in Baltimore, testing Reba in a way she hadn’t encountered in a long, long time.
“It’s totally different for me because it’s a 40×40 square out in the middle of the arena,” she says. “I was a little panicked, at first, how was I gonna make it around and do my songs, but I really do like it. I like to have access to that many people instead of just goin’ back and forth on a stage like in a proscenium. So it worked out very well.”
That, she noted, addresses the technical part of the show. From an emotional standpoint, teaming with George and Lee Ann Womack was even better.

Most diehard Lady Antebellum fans know that Hillary Scott’s mother is singer Linda Davis. But Lady A’s Charles Kelley comes from a musical family too. His brother Josh had a debut pop hit in 2003 with “Amazing” and another Top 10 in 2005 with “Only You.”
Now Josh is coming over to the country. Record label UMG — home to Sugarland, Josh Turner, Lee Ann Womack and Jamey Johnson — announced that Josh signed a record deal with them in September and currently in the studio recording his forthcoming album, due in 2010.
“Universal is a perfect home for me and my music,” says Josh. “They have an awesome track record of allowing artists to be who they really are, and have already been so supportive of my new music. I’m stoked to be part of such a talented group of artists and staff.”
Prior to marrying his wife, Grey’s Anatomy actress Katherine Heigl, Josh made his home in Nashville.
