GAC Trivia Time: Trace Adkins

Trace Adkins photo courtesy of Show Dog-Universal Music.

Trace Adkins has never been afraid to try new things…in life or in music. Sometimes his music makes you think, while other times you might want to “shut your mouth and slap your grandma,” all while shaking your “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk.” (Sorry Grandma!)

His journey to the top has been anything but ordinary.  In fact, he’s lucky to even be alive. He’s gone from operating rooms to Donald Trump’s boardroom and from the Grand Ole Opry stage to the silver screen. It’s not hard to understand why “Ladies Love Country Boys,” and this one in particular.

Here at GAC, we love him too! Don’t miss Part 2 of The Collection: Trace Adkins airing TONIGHT on GAC at 8/7c! What’s your favorite Trace Adkins video? Leave a comment below and let us know!

In honor of The Collection: Trace Adkins, this week’s GAC Trivia Time* is all about Trace:

Sep 11, 1983 – Trace Adkins rides out Hurricane Chantal on an oil rig in the Caribbean

Feb 21, 1994 – Trace Adkins’ first wife shoots him with a .38-caliber revolver, the bullet penetrating both lungs and both chambers of his heart

Jun 25, 1996 – Capitol releases Trace Adkins’ debut album, Dreamin’ Out Loud

Nov 23, 1996 -Trace Adkins makes his debut on the Grand Ole Opry. After singing “Every Light In The House,” he drops to one knee, calls out girlfriend Rhonda Forlaw and asks her to marry him. She says yes Continue Reading

The Matthew McConaughey movie The Lincoln Lawyer — also starring Trace Adkins — isn’t in theaters until March 18, but we already have a sneak peek for you, HERE!

Trace plays the leader of a motorcycle gang, and he’s quite convincing in the role. He recently talked to GAC’s Suzanne Alexander about what it was like to work on the flick: Continue Reading

See Trace Adkins on the Set of His New Video

Trace Akdins has been busy shooting the video for his latest single, “Brown Chicken Brown Cow.”

What exactly does the song title mean? Trace explained to CNN that saying the song title out loud recalls  “that old guitar lick that was predominant in every porno done in the seventies.”

Trace has a co-star in the video — a puppet made to look like him, complete with long, flowing locks.  It seems the puppet is helping keep everything kid-friendly. ”We wanted to do a video that kept the innuendo, but at the same time is G-rated so that kids can watch it, and their parents don’t have to worry about them seeing something — so we’re using puppets,” he told CNN.

Here’s a behind the scenes clip of Trace on the set. Continue Reading

From Crazy Heart to Country Strong, Hollywood and Nashville were tightly linked in 2010.

Tim McGraw, Julianne Hough, Trace Adkins and Carrie Underwood all went in front of the cameras. And artists as diverse as Ryan Bingham, Billy Currington, Taylor Swift and Kenny Chesney got their music on the big screen in one way or another.

Country’s role in a large number of movies ranks No. 7 in GAC’s countdown of the dozen top stories of 2010.

Watch Jamey Johnson’s New Video Featuring Matthew McConaughey

A few weeks ago we told you about the seemingly odd pairing of Jamey Johnson and Matthew McConaughey,  and how they teamed up for Jamey’s new video “Playing The Part.”   The hilarious new video, directed by McConaughey, was shot in L.A. on Hollywood Boulevard.   Not only did Jamey enlist his good friend to direct the video, but McConaughey also plays a key role in the clip.  It’s fair to say there was some serious “monkey business” going on when they shot this video.    See for yourself:

“Playing The Part” is the fifth track on the “Black Album” disc that is part of Jamey’s recently released two disc album The Guitar Song. You can find out more about the album and watch GAC’s exclusive interview clips on Jamey’s official artist page.

Leave me a comment below and let me know what you think of Jamey’s new video…

Jamey Johnson Joins Willie, Kenny at Farm Aid

Jamey Johnson is headed to the home of the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday, though he won’t be singing the national anthem or “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” during the final weekend of baseball’s regular season.

Instead, he’s been announced at the last minute as an addition to the lineup for Willie Nelson’s Farm Aid 25: Growing Home For America at Miller Park. Board members John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews and Neil Young were already set for the concert, of course. And so were Norah Jones, Jeff Tweedy, Jason Mraz and the Randy Rogers Band, among others.

And the event has an interesting connection to the top of the country album charts. Jamey’s new double-disc CD, The Guitar Song, came out Sept. 14 and went to No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart. Kenny Chesney’s new project, Hemingway’s Whiskey, came out on Tuesday, and it’s already being forecast as the top-selling album in any genre for the week. Since Kenny’s scheduled to be at Miller Park, too, it means artists with No. 1 country albums two of the last three weeks will both appear on the same stage the same day.

Carrie Underwood and Trace Adkins have finished their work on a couple of movies that are in the works. And that’s just a start among a raft of film projects tied to Nashville’s best-known genre.

Travis Tritt and Julianne Hough have their own acting bits on tap, and there might well be a picture in the future about the life of Jerry Lee Lewis.

Here’s the latest on-screen news of note:

Trace Adkins’ August: An Album & a Movie

The next month has Trace Adkins working two different parts of his public persona. The music part gets a workout when his next album, Cowboy’s Back In Town, comes out Aug. 17. And his acting abilities get used when he spends a few days in Los Angeles to film a part in the movie The Lincoln Lawyer.

The album and the movie have one other thing in common besides Trace: Both involve Matthew McConaughey. Matthew has the lead role in the movie, and he also gets namechecked in a song on the album called “Hell, I Can Do That.” Trace made sure Matthew got to hear it, though during a recent visit, Trace didn’t yet know what the actor thinks of the song.

From the minute Tim McGraw and Faith Hill announced plans for their multi-artist flood-relief concert Nashville Rising, the event looked like the kind of evening ripe for surprises. And it was.

Even after Brooks & Dunn were forced to cancel because of Ronnie Dunn’s throat problems, a few unannounced stars made their way Tuesday to Music City’s Bridgestone Arena, one of numerous downtown facilities that took in water during the early-May flood. Trace Adkins popped onstage to join Blake Shelton on “Hillbilly Bone,” according to USA Today. And Sandra Bullock — who worked with Tim on the movie The Blind Side — took the spotlight and comically picked out the opening chords from Deep Purple’s classic-rock standard “Smoke On The Water.” Then she got serious.
