If you’ve been wondering how cleanup and restoration is going at the Grand Ole Opry, here’s the latest update from the Opry folks:

The Grand Ole Opry Entertainment Complex, flooded early last week in the worst Middle Tennessee floods in more than 100 years, has since been the site of an around-the clock remediation process aimed at ensuring the well-being of Opry archives and collections affected by the flooding. “The Opry is the heart of country music,” said Grand Ole Opry President Steve Buchanan, “so it is not at all surprising that since the flood, people from around the world have been interested in the safety of some of our most treasured items. This Sunday, the stars are coming together to help Nashville as GAC airs Music City Keep On Playin’ — A Benefit For Flood Relief. Airing from Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium at 8 p.m. ET, the fundraiser features Brad PaisleyLady Antebellum, Keith Urban, Dierks Bentley, Rodney Atkins, and Kellie Pickler, among others.

Kellie recently called in to our studio with the exciting news that she wanted GAC to have the world premiere of her new video, “Makin’ Me Fall In Love Again.” The video has a 1940s USO theme and you can see it TONIGHT — Friday, May 14 at 8 p.m. Eastern – on the Top 20 Country Countdown.

When Kellie shot the video in Los Angeles a couple of months ago, she was in the middle of touring with good buddy Taylor Swift and took advantage of a day off to film the clip. She not only worked on her day off, she worked in an injured state.

“That week, I’d sprained my ankle really bad and torn some ligaments in my ankle,” she tells GAC. “So the whole day of the shoot, when I’d wear heels, every time they’d say, ‘Cut!’ I’d just have to take my shoe off. By the end of the day, my whole foot was so swollen, I couldn’t even fit a shoe on it. There’s a scene of me sitting on a couch in the video. I’m wearing one shoe and I had to hide my other foot because it was so swollen!” Continue Reading

Nashville Mayor Karl Dean has estimated the total damages from this week’s flood could top $1 billion, though Music City is still digging out.

Others, including Brad Paisley and LeAnn Rimes, are still waiting to see how much equipment they might have lost when the Cumberland River swelled over its bank.

The floods in Middle Tennessee didn’t discriminate as evidenced by this amazing shot of Kenny Chesney standing on what was part of the stairway leading into his Nashville-area home.   Kenny was out of town over the past weekend and could not access the area leading to his house until Wednesday.   For the moment it’s clear that Kenny has lost a lot of personal property and effects, and as the waters recede it may become clear that he’s lost his home. After several days of devastating flooding, Nashville has begun digging out, surveying the damage caused by dirty, rising water after a catastrophic downpour.

The Grand Ole Opry House is likely closed for weeks — maybe months — with water so deep that someone paddled a canoe over the seats, Marty Stuart told the Associated Press. The Country Music Hall of Fame, which has water in its Ford Theater, lost power and is running a generator to maintain temperatures inside the building to keep its fragile artifacts from being destroyed. A facility where Keith Urban was storing his concert equipment was inaccessible, and Keith believes he lost all of his guitars and amps.
