Scotty McCreery raised $60,000 for the 12.14 Foundation during a benefit concert in Wallingford, Conn., over the weekend. McCreery serves as a national Goodwill Ambassador for the foundation, whose mission is to develop programs that help children gain confidence, inspiration and skills to rise above traumatic events. The organization was founded after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012.

“Music has always been a positive force in my life, whether as a fan or now as an entertainer,” McCreery said. “It feels great to bring people together with my music and help such a worthwhile cause as the 12.14 Foundation.”

“Scotty’s benefit concert last night was nothing short of incredible,” Michael Baroody, M.D., Founder of the 12.14 Foundation, said. “He showed his strong support of the 12.14 Foundation and love for his country, and honored the sacrifices of our troops. Even at such a young age, he serves as an example for all of us. In addition to his obvious musical talents, Scotty is genuine, kind and has unshakable conviction. His generosity from last night helps further our efforts to utilize the performing arts in helping children understand their strengths, passions and capabilities, preparing them with tools for tomorrow.” Continue Reading

Scotty McCreery is honoring  our U.S. Military with his song, “The Dash,” found on his See You Tonight album. He performs the song every night in concert, accompanied by a poignant video highlighting the life of U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Andrew Carpenter. In honor of Veteran’s Day, McCreery posted the video on his official Facebook page and YouTube site.

Carpenter, a native of Columbia, Tenn., was serving his second tour of duty in Afghanistan when he came under enemy fire on Valentine’s Day 2011. He passed away five days later, leaving behind his wife, Chrissie, who was pregnant with their first child, Landon. The town of Columbia later named a highway in honor of Carpenter and his service. Chrissie is the cousin of McCreery’s bass player, Nathan Thomas, who told McCreery about Carpenter’s life and sacrifice.

Country Stars Share Favorite Halloween Memories

Hillary Scott's Halloween Costume as a Kid

Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott shared this Halloween photo from her childhood.

Halloween — typically, jack-o’-lanterns, witches, and, of course, candy come to mind at the mention of this holiday. But one country star associates Halloween with fireworks.

“When I was a kid, I was all into fireworks,” Dierks Bentley said. “Growing up in Arizona, we couldn’t get them, so we’d have them shipped in illegally. I still remember the name of the guy we’d call. His name was Joe, and he’d ship them in a package with no writing on them. We were all about M-80s in the mailboxes and bottle rocket wars. To me, as a kid, Halloween was fireworks, blowing up stuff around home.”

Scotty McCreery‘s favorite Halloween was spent chasing girls. “My favorite Halloween memory would have to be me in my gorilla costume running down the street chasing some little girl I was friends with,” he said. “I knew her, but I was scaring her half to death. My favorite costume, though, would have to be my Elvis Presley costume. I think I was about 10 years old when that was happening.”

Scotty McCreery

Happy Birthday to Scotty McCreery! The singer asked fans to help him celebrate his 21st birthday by making a donation to the 12.14 Foundation. The non-profit organization plans to build a multipurpose performing arts and education center for the residents of Newtown, Connecticut, site of the tragic 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary shooting. McCreery serves as a National Goodwill Ambassador for the 12.14 Foundation and has made multiple visits to Newtown to meet with families impacted by the tragedy.

“I’ve got such wonderful, generous fans, and they have been e-mailing my fan club asking what they could send me to celebrate my birthday,” he said.  “They’ve already given me far more than I could ever have imagined by letting me live out my dreams, so I would like to encourage the fans to donate to the 12.14 Foundation. Together we can support a great organization doing positive things in a town that is still recovering. Let’s help them reach their goal of building a state-of-the art performing arts and education center. That would be the best birthday gift I could receive.”  Continue Reading
