Nothing can stop Kenny Chesney‘s fans — not even Hurricane Irene! Last Saturday in Foxboro, MA, as 2,000 tickets released on the day of the show were snapped up within minutes despite hurricane warnings, bringing the attendance for Saturday’s show to 59,000 and the total for Kenny’s two sold-out Gillette Stadium shows to over 106,000.

Kenny celebrated the close of his 2011 ‘Goin’ Coastal’ Tour with a set that included a massive crowd sing-along on “She’s From Boston,” a high kicking chorus line by Billy Currington and his band on “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems,” ”Baby Got Back” with Zac Brown Band, and a mid-set award by CMA President Steve Moore to Kenny’s keyboardist Wyatt Beard as the CMA’s first-ever ‘Touring Musician of the Year.’  Kenny called the Foxboro crowd “one of the loudest and most loving crowds of the tour.”

Kenny’s Foxboro concert was an exciting cap to an eventful week for the superstar.  On Friday, he regaled his fans at the first CMA Songwriter Series event in Boston, an intimate performance chat with a handful of Music Row’s biggest hitmakers.  He also made a surprise visit to the Boston College football team the Eagles on Friday following a screening of his documentary ‘The Boys of Fall’, then spent an hour practicing with the New England Patriots but was unsuccessful in attempting Continue Reading

Kenny Chesney played the first concert at Green Bay’s Lambeau Field in 26 years Saturday night when his Goin’ Coastal tour pulled into the city. More than 45,000 fans attended the show that the Green Bay Press Gazette called a “concert of historical proportions.”

“Playing Lambeau Field was just about the biggest thrill of my life,” Kenny said. “It was everything I imagined it would be and more. The crowd in Lambeau hit us like an avalanche and they never let up. The connection was unlike any other, and I am so proud that my band and crew and I are now a part of the rich history and tradition of Lambeau Field in a small way.”

Kenny, a die-hard football fan, welcomed Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy to the stage during his set and hoisted the Lombardi Trophyfor all to see (awarded for the team’s 2011 Super Bowl), bringing roars of cheers from the Green Bay fans. Continue Reading

Kenny Chesney’s Hemingway’s Whiskey Almost Didn’t Happen

Kenny Chesney’s Hemingway’s Whiskey is nominated for ACM Album of the Year and contains two No. 1 singles with “The Boys Of Fall” and “Somewhere With You.” The third single from the album, “Live A Little,” is in the Top 20 at radio and climbing. Kenny has been vocal about how proud he is of this album. But as it turns out, Hemingway’s Whiskey almost didn’t happen.

“I took a lot of extra time with Hemingway’s Whiskey,” he said. “I had a whole other album done and almost turned it in. I realized in my heart of hearts that that album wasn’t right. I scrapped all of it except for ‘The Boys Of Fall,’ ‘Somewhere With You,’ and a song called ‘Seven Days.’ That’s the only songs that I kept from that original session and I went to work again, Buddy Cannon and I.”

It was the time off in the summer of 2010 that allowed Kenny the opportunity to focus on Hemingway’s Whiskey. Subsequently, he says it made the ACM Album of the Year nomination a little more special than his other four nominations. Continue Reading

Kenny Chesney Premieres New Football Documentary

Kenny Chesney was in Knoxville, Tennessee last night to debut his new documentary, The Color Orange: The Condredge Holloway Story. Kenny, who grew up around Knoxville, idolized Condredge from an early age, not only for his playmaking abilities as starting quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers, but for the type of person Condredge was and his resilience when faced with adversity.

Condredge, nicknamed The Artful Dodger, made headlines for his skills on the field but the bigger headline was the fact that he was the first starting African-American quarterback to play in the Southeastern Conference. The struggles he faced and the decisions he made along the way was the story Kenny set out to tell when ESPN asked him and director Shaun Silva to make the documentary, as part of their Year of the Quarterback initiative, following the success of Kenny and Shaun’s first documentary, The Boys of Fall.

“We know all the stats,” said Kenny. “We know what kind of player he was. But I wanted everybody to know what kind of person he was, how humble that he was, and everything that he went through personally, socially, so that he could become that person. And if you ask me, the odds were against him becoming that person and I felt like that was the reason, when ESPN asked Shaun and I to do this film, that’s why I wanted to do it. We can put a bunch of highlight reels together and make it look cool but we didn’t want to do that. We wanted to show people what kind of person he was,” Kenny said. Continue Reading

Kenny Chesney Torn Over Digital Era

Kenny Chesney’s new CD, Hemingway’s Whiskey, got off to a great start — it’s at No. 1 on both the Billboard Country Albums chart and the all-genre Billboard 200.

The top of the country list is a place Kenny’s very familiar with. It marks the tenth time he has had a No. 1 country album.

But it’s also a bit of a different market than it once was. Kenny sold 183,000 copies of Hemingway in the album’s first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and those numbers are good enough to make it the fourth best-selling album of the entire third quarter, even though it was available for only the final week of that period. Still, there were other times in his career that Kenny sold more than half a million in his debut week.

Kenny Chesney Debuts at No.1, Again!

With the “The Boys of Fall” already sitting atop the singles chart, singer songwriter Kenny Chesney lands his new album Hemingway’s Whiskey at Number One on The Billboard 200 Chart, his sixth album to achieve that feat. With  more than 183,000 albums (sold according to Nielson Soundscan), it more than doubles the first week sales of his last album which was his Greatest Hits II released last year, and outpaces the first week sales of his 2008 Lucky Old Sun album. Additionally, it’s his tenth consecutive album to debut at #1 on the Billboard Country Album Chart.

“My sixth number one album feels like my first one,” said an excited Chesney. “I love great songs and I love my fan base that has helped build all this… I’m proud of the songwriters, proud of Buddy Cannon (producer), proud of Renee Bell (EVP A&R Sony Music Nashville), proud of the musicians, and everyone involved in this historic ride we have all been on!!!” Continue Reading

Kenny Chesney Scores 20th No. 1 with “The Boys of Fall”

Kenny Chesney stopped by the GAC studios for an interview with host Suzanne Alexander.

In a review of Kenny Chesney’s current single, “The Boys Of Fall,” Billboard Magazine said, “When one of a musician’s passions collides with his full-time pursuit, the results are generally something special, and with his latest hit, Chesney scores big time.” That statement is undeniable this week, as “The Boys of Fall” sits atop both the Mediabase and BDS charts and Kenny Chesney is celebrating the 20th #1 single of his career.  The song captures the heart of something Chesney loves so much – the moments and life lessons that high school football represents.

Kenny stopped by the GAC studios last week and talked to our very own Suzanne Alexander about the motivation behind recording “The Boys of Fall.”  Watch the interview clip here:

Kenny Chesney Finds Life Lessons In “Fall”

Kenney Chesney shares some photos of from his high school football playing days in his new video "The Boys of Fall."

Kenny Chesney recently unveiled his Boys Of Fall documentary on high-school football, which dovetails quite nicely with his current hit.

But music isn’t the only thing the film overlaps with — it also carries some symbolism for life. Winning, losing, overcoming adversity, working with others, maintaining focus — those are all themes in sports and in the everyday stories of average people.

Kenny Chesney Serves Up Deluxe Edition of Hemingway’s Whiskey

Kenny Chesney Hemingway's Whiskey

Whether it’s an up close look at his high energy live shows with the “Summer In 3-D” movie, going behind the scenes and backstage with the “Road Case” DVD Series or keeping his ticket prices affordable, giving fans more has always been important to Kenny Chesney. That continues with a double disc CD + DVD, Deluxe Edition of Hemingway’s Whiskey on September 28. The package includes two bonus tracks and an in-depth conversation with Chesney about each of the songs. Quantities of the Deluxe Edition Version will be limited.

Of the Deluxe Edition Chesney said, “Adding a few songs is kind of the same approach we take to our shows. Every record is different, every night is different. You start feeling good and you want to do 10 extra minutes, 20 extra minutes, extra 3 hours — whatever it is. This is exactly the same. We put two extra songs and conversation on the record because there are fans that have been a part of my life for a long time and really love our music and have really invested a lot emotionally. You can call it ‘going the extra mile’ or whatever. I wanted to give them something special.” Continue Reading

Kenny Chesney Finds It’s Lonely at the Top

One very familiar face is missing from the national concert tour scene this summer – a guy who needed a break after spending years among the annual top attractions on the road.

Kenny Chesney had churned out massive tours for years, becoming one of music’s top ticket sellers and habitually playing 10 or 12 stadiums along the way each time he put together an itinerary. He was out there onstage successfully leading a big-time party in city after city, but doing it year after year came with a price. There’s plenty of work involved in the planning of a major tour, and Kenny was regularly writing songs and recording albums in his down time. He was quite the workhorse, and he got burnt out in the process.
