You could subtitle Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett’s new “Knee Deep” video “the return of Flody Boatwood.” Shot in Careyes, Mexico and directed by Darren Doane, ZBB’s new summertime anthem features Flody, who starred in “Toes,” along with a couple new siblings, including guest star Juliette Lewis as “Jody Boatwood,” with ZBB and Jimmy Buffett.

“Knee Deep” is the latest single from the southern six-piece’s acclaimed You Get What You Give album.

Top 10 Country Dance Club Songs of 2010

Marco Club Connection, a Nashville-based country music dance venue marketing company, has released its seventh annual Top Ten list of the year’s most requested country dance club songs — Sugarland tops the list with the sticks-in-your-head tune, ”Stuck Like Glue.”

Each year in December, Club Connection surveys a panel of more than 240 club owners, DJs and dance instructors from across the country to compile its Top Ten rankings.

“As country music continues to incorporate more and more of a pop element, the dance clubs can be a very important tool in breaking an artist,” says Club Connection Venue Marketing Specialist Bobbe Morhiser. “Look no further than Laura Bell Bundy for proof of that. ‘Giddy On Up’ was huge in the dance clubs, and for a brand new artist to place in Club Connection’s top five at the end of the year is very impressive.”

The results of the 2010 Top Ten Country Dance Club Hits are: Continue Reading

Zac Brown Band Grinds Through the Tough Years

The Zac Brown Band has had five hits in the last two years, and the group has become so big so quickly that it’s hard to remember the members were all struggling musicians through most of their time together.

Genuinely successful people believe in themselves, and they often lay it on the line when things look their most bleak. That’s certainly the case for Zac and crew, who played for years in the Atlanta area before they broke through nationally. They did all right on their home turf, but when they ventured into new territory in a converted airport shuttle bus, it cost money to get there, and they often lost money in the process.

Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride: CMA Nominations Trivia

When Miranda Lambert set a record for female acts by picking up nine awards nominations this week from the Country Music Association, no one was more surprised than her.

But that wasn’t the only shock-a-roonie of the two-day nominations announcement. Lady Antebellum achieved something that’s never been done before, Steel Magnolia and The Band Perry each accomplished something that’s probably been done only once. And Miranda did something that’s only happened twice.

Here’s a bevy of CMA trivia that you may not have seen anywhere else:

From its live version of Charlie Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” to its island-flavored single “Toes,” the Zac Brown Band has shown itself to be a musically flexible act.

Just how flexible? Enough that it’s landed four country hits off its 2008 album The Foundation but also opened for the Dave Matthews Band at a pair of stadium gigs over the weekend in New York City.

And it sounds as if Zac and crew will demonstrate even greater flexibility with the next release, You Get What You Give.

Zac Brown’s “Toes” Sits at No. 1, But Is “Ass” Really a Bad Word?

For the second week in a row the Zac Brown Band is sitting at the top of the Billboard Country chart with their third No. 1 hit, “Toes.”

Last night I tuned in to watch the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and the Zac Brown Band was the featured musical guest.  And as would be expected, they performed their hit “Toes,” the original, un-edited version where they use the word “ass” in the chorus.   Yes, that’s right – they sang the word “ass” on national TV.
